Help, I’m a jewelry idiot! (ring setting question)?

So I have this beautiful star sapphire stone. It’s an oval cabochon and I really want to find a nice ring setting for it. My question is, can I use any normal oval pronged ring setting for a cab stone or are these generally only for faceted stones? Do I need to find a special cabochon setting for this stone? Also, if I can use a standard pronged setting, is it better to have the prongs notched or plain? Thanks!

I think that the normal setting would be fine with a cabochon, and it would probably be better to have the prongs notched. I’m no expert though, and if you’re unsure, maybe a local jeweler could give you advice.
